Infography

noun [in-fog-ruh-fee] : The art and science of information representation.

The information we see and how we consume it has a profound effect on the decisions we make.

We might not want to admit it but our beliefs about the world are loaded with uncertainty. The claims people make will often be some some distance from the truth, whether intentional or not. Reality is almost always more nuanced and complex.

Information which reduces that uncertainty has high decision value. Good information nudges our beliefs towards reality, so we can choose better options. If bad information masks and distorts reality, we choose worse options.

Humans are goal-directed creatures. We all have goals, whether explicit or implicit, whether morally good or bad. To reach those goals we must intervene on our world to change it.

Decision information helps us choose where to invest in changing something in pursuit of a goal. It helps us to make sense of complex networks of cause and effect, of choice and chance. The presence of timely, accurate feedback about progress towards the goal keeps us on course. Armed with that feedback we can decide to continue to invest in our efforts, adapt or abandon them.

Our mission at Infography is simple:

Design information which helps humanity to make better decisions.

Why does that mission matter? Because if we start with good goals, better information and better decisions will create a better future for humanity.
